Heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death and disability for all Americans. The good news: more than 80 percent of risk factors for heart disease and stroke are preventable through behaviors such as making better food choices, getting regular exercise, keeping a healthy weight and not smoking. These efforts can help keep hearts and brains healthy.

As Charlotte County’s American Heart Association “My Heart. My Life.” cause partner, Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda encourages the community to grab a piece of fruit instead of a bag of chips for a mid-afternoon snack, eat a salad before dinner, or add chopped veggies to an omelet. Those little daily choices can add up to a big difference in long-term health.

Attend an event for tips, and register for a free toolkit that includes a resource guide to learn about incorporating more fruits and vegetables for a healthy diet. To register for a class or toolkit, call 941-637-2497.
