Bayfront Health to Host Seminars as Part of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (February 26, 2013) – Bayfront Health invites community members to join them in this year’s National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month – a national movement to increase awareness and education about colorectal cancer and to spread the message that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable, and beatable.
Many people do not realize that simply aging can make you more at risk for developing colon cancer and it doesn’t always cause symptoms. Colorectal cancer is one of only a few cancers that can be prevented through screening, which can detect and remove precancerous growths called “polyps.”
Even so, colorectal cancer remains the third-leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the United States. Each year, tens of thousands of lives are lost to this disease; screening could save more than half of these lives. The American Cancer Society recommends that people 50 and older talk to their doctor about getting screened for colorectal cancer. They should talk to their doctor sooner if they have a family history of the disease or other condition that puts them at increased risk.
Bayfront Health is joining in the national effort to increase colorectal cancer awareness and promote the importance of screening and will host the following seminars:
